On Tuesday, April 12, WiNGS, a nonprofit organization that helps Dallas women lift themselves out of poverty, hosted its Mentors & Allies Awards luncheon at the Fairmont Dallas Hotel.  This year’s event included a keynote speech from Nina Vaca, Chairman and CEO of the Pinnacle Group and honorary chairs John Young, Energy Future Holdings CEO, and Julie Young.

The Mentors & Allies Awards honor women, men, and companies whose leadership and commitment positively impact women. This year’s awardees are Kim Askew of K&L Gates, Ronald Parker of the Executive Leadership Council, The Women’s Business Council – Southwest, represented by Debbie Hurst, and the Ebby Halliday Volunteer of the Year, Michael Violi of Violi Enterprises.

500 people attended the luncheon and more than $240,000 was raised to support WiNGS programs.  “It is always rewarding to see so many come together to help women looking to make life better for themselves and their families,” said Jennifer Ware, WiNGS CEO.   “Great event leadership and generous donors made the day a terrific success.”

WiNGS, or Women In Need of Generous Support, is a non-profit agency that helps women find their path to a better life.  WiNGS programs help women become strong mothers, advocates for their own breast health, successful in the workplace, and financially secure.  The organization, formerly known as the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas, served more than 4,000 individuals in Dallas County last year.  WiNGS is headquartered at the WiNGS Center at Ebby’s Place, named after the late Ebby Halliday Acers, whose life exemplified extraordinary integrity with a focus on empowering women.

This year’s Mentors & Allies Luncheon was made possible by the following lead sponsors:  American Airlines, Energy Future Holdings, Colleen Barrett, CoreLogic, Ebby Halliday REALTORS, Mary Kay Inc., Herb Kelleher, and Oncor.
