DALLAS, October 14, 2021 – WiNGS today announced it received a $30,000 grant from Truist Financial Corporation through its Truist Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund at The Winston-Salem Foundation, to support WiNGS Economic Advancement programs, helping women build financial security and assets and develop important work skills.
“Thanks to support from organizations like Truist, we are able to continue our work and help women build financial security and develop important work skills,” said Kate Rose Marquez, chief executive officer of WiNGS. “Our goal is to empower women through one-on-one coaching and tailored action plans. This grant will help us serve even more women as they achieve their goals and imagine new possibilities.”
Women of color are the face of poverty in Texas. Nearly one in six Texas women and girls lack financial resources to care for themselves and their families. In the Dallas metro area, 30% of women are heads of households; yet they represent 53% of households living in poverty. WiNGS is uniquely positioned to serve these women. WiNGS’ Economic Advancement programs intervene to help women and their families escape poverty and imagine a future for themselves and their children.
WiNGS Economic Advancement program successfully serves the community and builds financial resiliency through personal financial capabilities and higher income opportunities. WiNGS provides programs in a variety of ways such as one-on-one counseling and curriculum designed to meet a woman where she is. WiNGS sets high program benchmarks and walks alongside clients to achieve their goals, including:
- 70% of members with a savings goal will increase savings within 12 months, with an average increase of $1,250.
- 50% of members with a debt goal will reduce unsecured debt within 12 months, with an average decrease of $3,000.
- 50% of members with a credit goal will improve their FICO credit score within 12 months, with an average increase of 55 points.
